And If Another Blizzard Came, They'd Cancel In a Heartbeat

Sorry, New Jersey.  Sporting events should be treated as non-essential products.

Why would the NHL and the NBA force the Flyers-Devils and Bucks-Nyets contests to be played?  If I was Governor Christie, he of the Good Oldboysandgirls Party, the "State of Emergency" order would also include all events that not needed like sporting events.  Why did over 1,000 force themselves to go to the soon-to-be-dismantled Brendan Byrne Arena/Continental Airlines Arena/IZOD Center to watch the most wretched sports franchise since the 1972-73 Seventy Sicksters.  This game and the Devils-Flyers Game at the Prudential Center in Newark should have been cancelled for the safety of everybody - players, officials, fans - because of this snowstorm.

  1. While I can't speak for the Nets and the Bucks, the reason the Flyers game was not canceled is because frankly, there is no time to make it up. There is not a period in March where the Flyers have 2 days off and they had gotten into New Jersey before the blizzard came. It's a little unfair to the fans, yes, (although one can argue that every Devils fan in the world was at that game last night), but the logistics of a postponement were not there, especially seeing as the Flyers got into Newark before the storm. Both teams are there, play the game.

Here's the Flyers schedule for proof. There just was not anyway they could have canceled it.

  2. I checked the master NHL schedule, March 23rd was available as a common off day.

  3. I think you meant the 24th, not the 23rd (both teams play on 3/23; both have off the 24th). But then both teams would be playing 3 games in a row and at that point you are risking injury to the players.

Both teams safely arrived in Newark before the storm. There was no way they were not playing that game.

The Devils organization can offer partial refunds and/or replacement tickets or something to fans unable to attend that game. Good news for the Devils if they do that is they only need to worry about 100 Devils fans.....
